Giving to NMW

National Moth Week 2013 was a huge success thanks in no small part to the efforts of all of our participants. We are incredibly grateful to everyone who supports us by getting involved in our project, hosting events, submitting photos, and just generally sharing in our love of moths!

If you’re looking to give during this holiday season, consider donating to National Moth Week.

You might wonder why it is that NMW requires money, given that our organization runs on the volunteer time and energy of us, your NMW team, as well as our participants. This is of course true, but we DO need funds for just a few things:

– Each year we offer prizes to our participants. While most of the prizes are donated to us, we do buy some of them. We also need to ship them to our winners, who are located around the world, and global shipping fees add up fast.

 – NMW maintains a flickr group, which requires a yearly fee.

– NMW maintains this website, which also requires a fee.

Currently the NMW team pays for these expenses out of our own pockets but, as they say, every little bit helps!

Finally, NMW has participants literally all over the world and not every participant is located in a first-world country. Our team dreams of being able to ship basic mothing set-ups to groups that cannot afford them or cannot get them due to the remoteness of their location. We’d love to have a donation-based fund available to help these groups get started with mothing set-ups. A basic black light, battery pack and sheet costs about $150 plus shipping.

You can donate through our Paypal. All donations are tax deductible to the extent allowed by law. Please consider donating to National Moth Week!

The National Moth Week team is looking forward excitedly to 2014. We’ve got some amazing and wonderful things planned for this year that we can’t wait to share with you all.

We thank you for your continued support!
