You may recall that in 2012 49 states participated in NMW. Do you remember what the missing state was?

Here’s a hint to help you remember the missing state.

Today, we are super-pleased to announce that 2013’s NMW will include events in North Dakota!

Carl contemplates moths
Dr. Barrentine contemplates the Peterson Guide

Folks, this is a big get for us. Dr. Carl Barrentine of Grand Forks, ND is more than making up for last year with a full month of moth-related activities – everything from moth art to informative presentations, and of course, blacklighting will be included in Carl’s Moth Month agenda. The Grand Forks Public Library will host a moth art exhibit from July 8 – 28 and Turtle River State Park will hold three blacklighting events.

Carl runs the website Dakota Naturalist and you can check out his Moth Month activities here.

What’s more, Carl has his own YouTube channel for nature videos complete with a 25-part (!) series on ND moth identification. Here’s one of his videos detailing the early spring moths of northeastern North Dakota:

We are absolutely thrilled to welcome Carl and Dakota Naturalist as a 2013 NMW supporter!

That leaves just 18 more states until we’ve got a full count for the USA. Arizona, Arkansas, Delaware, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Minnesota, Mississippi, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, Rhode Island, South Dakota, Virginia, West Virginia, and Wyoming – Where are you guys?! If you’re reading this and you live in one of these states, please help us out!  Register an event today!
