Join the Friends of the East Brunswick Environmental Commission and the NMW team this week for the official kickoff of National Moth Week 2014, Friday, July 18, at 8:30 p.m. We’ll be hunting moths at Community Park, also known as Dallenbach’s Lake, located on Dunham’s Corner Road. Park in the Crystal Springs lot. The event is free and open to people of all ages.
We’ll be setting up lights and painting trees with moth bait near and in the woods, so comfortable shoes and flashlights are advised. Cameras are encouraged so you can capture the nighttime visitors to our sheets.
National Moth Week will be celebrated this year in all 50 states, the District of Columbia and 40 countries around the world. This citizen science project was started in East Brunswick by the Friends of the East Brunswick Environmental Commission in 2012 to engage and educate people about moths, their beauty and their importance to the environment. It immediately became a global initiative with hundreds of events attended by thousands of people.
If you are not in New Jersey, check our locations page to find an event in your area, or register your own.
