Meet NMW supporter – John Beetham, A DC Birding Blog

John grew up and lives central NJ. He started birding in his late 20s when he lived in D.C., and participated in several bird-related citizen science projects, including Christmas Bird Counts, the Great Backyard Bird Count, and the C&O Canal Midwinter Bird Survey, which he helped organize for a few years. Currently he is volunteering for NJ Audubon’s Lower Raritan Bird Survey. In the course of birding, he became interested in insects, both as a food source for birds and because of their own extraordinary diversity. A few years ago, he started tracking moths in his own backyard, first with a porch light and then with a UV light and sheet. So far he has documented over 100 moth species in his backyard.

  1. I would like to use a photo of yours of a wood thrush in Central Park in a forthcoming post: Hylocichla mustelina – Central Park, New York, USA-8.jpg. I found it in Wikimedia Commons. How would like the attribution to read? Please contact me by e-mail. Clifford Browder
