Meet an Underwing – Noctua pronuba (Large yellow underwing)

This year’s National Moth Week’s spotlighted moths are the Underwings, comprise the genus Catocala, which is part of the large Erebidae family.

This photo is of a moth resembling the true underwings – the  Large yellow underwing (Noctua pronuba) of the Noctuidae family. The photo was taken by David Short in September 2013.

National Moth Week 2016 will be held from 23rd to 31st July. Anyone can participate. Register a public or private event or find one to attend by checking the website for public events. Registration is free to individuals, groups and organizations.
